Songs of Degrees, Part 3
Keeping the Gate
Songs of Degrees: This is a sermon
series about Psalms 120 through 134. The Songs of Degrees, or the
Songs of Ascents, are meant to teach us about our upward journey
toward what God wills for His church. There are 15 of these songs
and there were 1,500 years between the ministry of Moses and the
earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. When God gave Moses the plan for
the Tabernacle, it was the beginning of His plan to restore man, to
rescue man. This plan, we know, was fulfilled by the death,
resurrection, and ascension of our Lord and Savior.
This study is based
upon Psalm 122 and teaches us how God wants to secure the “gates” of
our minds with His Word and free us from the lies and tormenting
thoughts that our adversary, the devil, seeks to imprison us with.
Where we are weak, He is strong.

commandments, the statutes, and the judgments,

that ye might do them in the land whither ye go
to possess it: |
| That thou mightest fear the
LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his
commandments, which I command thee, thou, and
thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy
life; and that thy days may be prolonged. |
| Hear therefore, O Israel,
and observe to do it; that it may be well with
thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the
LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in
the land that floweth with milk and honey. |
| Hear, O Israel: The LORD
our God is one LORD: |
| And thou shalt love the
LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy might. |
| And these words, which I
command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: |
| And thou shalt teach them
diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of
them when thou sittest in thine house, and when
thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest
down, and when thou risest up. |

for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets between thine eyes. |

upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. |

AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say
unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me
unto you. |

Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of

thy wine mixed with water: |
| Thy princes are rebellious,
and companions of thieves: every one loveth
gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge
not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of
the widow come unto them. |
| Therefore saith the Lord,
the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah,
I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge
me of mine enemies: |
| And I will turn my hand
upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and
take away all thy tin: |
| And I will restore thy
judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as
at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be
called, The city of righteousness, the faithful
city. |

judgment, and her converts with righteousness. |
| And the destruction of the
transgressors and of the sinners shall be
together, and they that forsake the LORD shall
be consumed. |
