Instruments of Power The church is the
instrument God has chosen to accomplish His work on the earth.
Ordinary men and women can be God’s instruments if they are willing
to deny the flesh and diligently seek Him in prayer.

John 19
| Then Pilate therefore took
Jesus, and scourged him. |
| And the soldiers platted a
crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and
they put on him a purple robe, |
| And said, Hail, King of the
Jews! and they smote him with their hands. |
| Pilate therefore went forth
again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him
forth to you, that ye may know that I find no
fault in him. |
| Then came Jesus forth,
wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple
robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the
man! |
| When the chief priests
therefore and officers saw him, they cried out,
saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith
unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I
find no fault in him. |
| The Jews answered him, We
have a law, and by our law he ought to die,
because he made himself the Son of God. |
| When Pilate therefore heard
that saying, he was the more afraid; |
| And went again into the
judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art
thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. |
| Then saith Pilate unto him,
Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that
I have power to crucify thee, and have power to
release thee? |
| Jesus answered, Thou
couldest have no power at all against me, except
it were given thee from above: therefore he that
delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. |
| And from thenceforth Pilate
sought to release him: but the Jews cried out,
saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not
Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king
speaketh against Caesar. |
| When Pilate therefore heard
that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat
down in the judgment seat in a place that is
called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. |
| And it was the preparation
of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and
he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! |
John 19:1-14 |
John 19
| Now there was set a vessel
full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with
vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to
his mouth. |
| When Jesus therefore had
received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:
and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. |
| The Jews therefore, because
it was the preparation, that the bodies should
not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day,
(for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought
Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that
they might be taken away. |
| Then came the soldiers, and
brake the legs of the first, and of the other
which was crucified with him. |
| But when they came to
Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they
brake not his legs: |
| But one of the soldiers
with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith
came there out blood and water. |
| And he that saw it bare
record, and his record is true: and he knoweth
that he saith true, that ye might believe. |
| For these things were done,
that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone
of him shall not be broken. |
| And again another scripture
saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. |
| And after this Joseph of
Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but
secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate
that he might take away the body of Jesus: and
Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and
took the body of Jesus. |
| And there came also
Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by
night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes,
about an hundred pound weight. |
| Then took they the body of
Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the
spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. |
| Now in the place where he
was crucified there was a garden; and in the
garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man
yet laid. |
| There laid they Jesus
therefore because of the Jews' preparation day;
for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. |
John 19:29-42 |
Matthew 11
| And from the days of John
the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven
suffereth violence, and the violent take it by
force. |
| For all the prophets and
the law prophesied until John. |
| And if ye will receive it,
this is Elias, which was for to come. |
Matthew 11:12-14 |
Ephesians 3
| For this cause I Paul, the
prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, |
| If ye have heard of the
dispensation of the grace of God which is given
me to you-ward: |
| How that by revelation he
made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote
afore in few words, |
| Whereby, when ye read, ye
may understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ) |
| Which in other ages was not
made known unto the sons of men, as it is now
revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by
the Spirit; |
| That the Gentiles should be
fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers
of his promise in Christ by the gospel: |
| Whereof I was made a
minister, according to the gift of the grace of
God given unto me by the effectual working of
his power. |
| Unto me, who am less than
the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the
unsearchable riches of Christ; |
| And to make all men see
what is the fellowship of the mystery, which
from the beginning of the world hath been hid in
God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: |
| To the intent that now unto
the principalities and powers in heavenly places
might be known by the church the manifold wisdom
of God, |
Ephesians 3:1-10 |
Colossians 1
| Paul, an apostle of Jesus
Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our
brother, |
| To the saints and faithful
brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace
be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ. |
| We give thanks to God and
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying
always for you, |
| Since we heard of your
faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye
have to all the saints, |
| For the hope which is laid
up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in
the word of the truth of the gospel; |
| Which is come unto you, as
it is in all the world; and bringeth forth
fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye
heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: |
| As ye also learned of
Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you
a faithful minister of Christ; |
| Who also declared unto us
your love in the Spirit. |
| For this cause we also,
since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray
for you, and to desire that ye might be filled
with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding; |
| That ye might walk worthy
of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in
every good work, and increasing in the knowledge
of God; |
| Strengthened with all
might, according to his glorious power, unto all
patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; |
| Giving thanks unto the
Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers
of the inheritance of the saints in light: |
| Who hath delivered us from
the power of darkness, and hath translated us
into the kingdom of his dear Son: |
| In whom we have redemption
through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: |
| Who is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: |
Colossians 1:1-15 |
Colossians 2
| For I would that ye knew
what great conflict I have for you, and for them
at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my
face in the flesh; |
| That their hearts might be
comforted, being knit together in love, and unto
all riches of the full assurance of
understanding, to the acknowledgment of the
mystery of God, and of the Father, and of
Christ; |
| In whom are hid all the
treasures of wisdom and knowledge. |
| And this I say, lest any
man should beguile you with enticing words. |
| For though I be absent in
the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit,
joying and beholding your order, and the
stedfastness of your faith in Christ. |
| As ye have therefore
received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in
him: |
| Rooted and built up in him,
and stablished in the faith, as ye have been
taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. |
| Beware lest any man spoil
you through philosophy and vain deceit, after
the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the
world, and not after Christ. |
| For in him dwelleth all the
fulness of the Godhead bodily. |
| And ye are complete in him,
which is the head of all principality and power: |
| In whom also ye are
circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of
the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: |
| Buried with him in baptism,
wherein also ye are risen with him through the
faith of the operation of God, who hath raised
him from the dead. |
Colossians 2:1-12 |
John 19
| But they cried out, Away
with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate
saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The
chief priests answered, We have no king but
Caesar. |
| Then delivered he him
therefore unto them to be crucified. And they
took Jesus, and led him away. |
| And he bearing his cross
went forth into a place called the place of a
skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: |
| Where they crucified him,
and two others with him, on either side one, and
Jesus in the midst. |
| And Pilate wrote a title,
and put it on the cross. And the writing was,
JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. |
| This title then read many
of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was
crucified was nigh to the city: and it was
written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. |
| Then said the chief priests
of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of
the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the
Jews. |
| Pilate answered, What I
have written I have written. |
| Then the soldiers, when
they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and
made four parts, to every soldier a part; and
also his coat: now the coat was without seam,
woven from the top throughout. |
| They said therefore among
themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots
for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture
might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my vesture they did
cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did. |
| Now there stood by the
cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's
sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary
Magdalene. |
| When Jesus therefore saw
his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom
he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman,
behold thy son! |
| Then saith he to the
disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour
that disciple took her unto his own home. |
| After this, Jesus knowing
that all things were now accomplished, that the
scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. |
John 19:15-28 |
James 5
| Confess your faults one to
another, and pray one for another, that ye may
be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man availeth much. |
| Elias was a man subject to
like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly
that it might not rain: and it rained not on the
earth by the space of three years and six
months. |
| And he prayed again, and
the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought
forth her fruit. |
James 5:16-18 |
1 John 5
| For whatsoever is born of
God overcometh the world: and this is the
victory that overcometh the world, even our
faith. |
1 John 5:4 |
Ephesians 3
| According to the eternal
purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our
Lord: |
| In whom we have boldness
and access with confidence by the faith of him. |
| Wherefore I desire that ye
faint not at my tribulations for you, which is
your glory. |
| For this cause I bow my
knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| Of whom the whole family in
heaven and earth is named, |
| That he would grant you,
according to the riches of his glory, to be
strengthened with might by his Spirit in the
inner man; |
| That Christ may dwell in
your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love, |
| May be able to comprehend
with all saints what is the breadth, and length,
and depth, and height; |
| And to know the love of
Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might
be filled with all the fulness of God. |
| Now unto him that is able
to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that worketh in
us, |
| Unto him be glory in the
church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages,
world without end. Amen. |
Ephesians 3:11-21 |
Colossians 1
| For by him were all things
created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be
thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers: all things were created by him, and for
him: |
| And he is before all
things, and by him all things consist. |
| And he is the head of the
body, the church: who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead; that in all things he
might have the preeminence. |
| For it pleased the Father
that in him should all fulness dwell; |
| And, having made peace
through the blood of his cross, by him to
reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I
say, whether they be things in earth, or things
in heaven. |
| And you, that were sometime
alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked
works, yet now hath he reconciled |
| In the body of his flesh
through death, to present you holy and
unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: |
| If ye continue in the faith
grounded and settled, and be not moved away from
the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and
which was preached to every creature which is
under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; |
| Who now rejoice in my
sufferings for you, and fill up that which is
behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh
for his body's sake, which is the church: |
| Whereof I am made a
minister, according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word
of God; |
| Even the mystery which hath
been hid from ages and from generations, but now
is made manifest to his saints: |
| To whom God would make
known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in
you, the hope of glory: |
| Whom we preach, warning
every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;
that we may present every man perfect in Christ
Jesus: |
| Whereunto I also labour,
striving according to his working, which worketh
in me mightily. |
Colossians 1:16-29 |
Colossians 2
| And you, being dead in your
sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath
he quickened together with him, having forgiven
you all trespasses; |
| Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us,
which was contrary to us, and took it out of the
way, nailing it to his cross; |
| And having spoiled
principalities and powers, he made a show of
them openly, triumphing over them in it. |
| Let no man therefore judge
you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an
holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath
days: |
| Which are a shadow of
things to come; but the body is of Christ. |
| Let no man beguile you of
your reward in a voluntary humility and
worshipping of angels, intruding into those
things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up
by his fleshly mind, |
| And not holding the Head,
from which all the body by joints and bands
having nourishment ministered, and knit
together, increaseth with the increase of God. |
| Wherefore if ye be dead
with Christ from the rudiments of the world,
why, as though living in the world, are ye
subject to ordinances, |
| (Touch not; taste not;
handle not; |
| Which all are to perish
with the using;) after the commandments and
doctrines of men? |
| Which things have indeed a
show of wisdom in will worship, and humility,
and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to
the satisfying of the flesh. |
