In The Garden

Our walk with God starts in a garden, walking with God personally, just Him and us in the cool of the evening. As our relationship with Him grows, it changes to a walk in a city, in the church with other believers, getting along with other people. This sermon focuses on the garden walk, where we walk with God as Adam did in Genesis 2. We need to be restored by faith to the relationship that God had with Adam, a Father/Son relationship.

Hid, Dead, & Safe!

It takes faith to receive the meat of the Word, even if we don't see it. Colossians 3 tells us that our flesh died at Calvary with Jesus. It takes faith to receive that when we see anger, wrath and malice in our lives. In God's view, the flesh was dealt with on the Cross of Calvary. The Word of God is for application in our life so we become something that glorifies God on this earth - His perfected church.

Outside The Camp

God has declared to Moses that He will no longer go with Moses and the Children of Israel because "they are a stiffnecked people". The problem is with the attitudes of the people and their lack of willingness to humble down to God, but God is looking to Moses, His leadership, to resolve the issue. Moses moves the Tabernacle outside the camp, thereby separating the people who would not honor God from access to God. If you wanted Him, you had to go outside the camp to get Him. The church today looks like the world and God is again found outside the camp.

Don't Forget Who Your Enemy Is

Even though David lived with the Philistines he never lost his sense of who God's children were and who fought against God. David never forgot who the enemy was and he was never beguiled by their gods. We need a wisdom today that transcends the plans of our enemy. If we want to win the battles, we get God into the battle with right actions. Stand by God and He'll stand by you.

The Justice of a Man Who Never Sinned

There is only one man who lived a sinless life on the earth and that is Jesus Christ. This man (who is also God) took upon Himself the justice that we deserve as sinners (the wages of sin is death), and He offers to freely give us the justice that He obtained as one who never sinned (eternal life). This sounds like a simple concept, and it is. Yet much of the church of this day finds itself bogged down in self-help Christianity rather than walking in the righteousness of Christ which we have been given as His people. The solution to this dilemma is simple.

God created man after His image. Man cannot make himself after the image of God, for it is a creative work that only the Potter can accomplish. The devil tempted Adam and Eve into performing an action which he said would make them more like God. We know that was a lie, yet we still fall into the trap of using our intellect and our knowledge of good and evil to try to make ourselves more like God. It is futile. God promises that we will be conformed to the image of Christ by reckoning ourselves dead and by surrendering in obedience to the Potter and believing His Word. He guarantees that His way will work!

Satan fights unity in the body of Christ by accusing one Christian to another. He does that because he fears unity based on the pure truth of the Living Water. Jesus said that each believer would have a fountain of Living Water flowing from within. As believers join together in true unity, that Living Water gets deeper and stronger and the devil can’t overcome it. Unity produces the prevailing power that the church needs in this hour.

As these songs of ascents take us further on, we come to a very important lesson pertaining to leadership. No one can lead a person past the place where they are themselves. All who would heed God’s call to leadership in the church MUST submit to God’s refining fire in their lives or they will have no authority to lead someone else into deeper places in the Lord. The fire purifies the Word that is planted within us so that it comes forth as gold. If we can’t stand the heat, God can’t finish His work in us or use us as He would desire to.

In Part 3, we learned that God wants to protect the gates of our minds with His Word. We must know God’s Word. We must also know God. If we do not get to know Him and learn to submit to Him as the Master, then we will likely make the same mistake the Jewish priesthood made. They knew the Word of God but did not know God. Because they did not know Him, they judged Jesus Christ (God come in the flesh) as worthy of death according to their interpretation of God’s Word. We must learn to keep our eyes on God, for His mercies are new every morning.

Songs of Degrees: This is a sermon series about Psalms 120 through 134. The Songs of Degrees, or the Songs of Ascents, are meant to teach us about our upward journey toward what God wills for His church. There are 15 of these songs and there were 1,500 years between the ministry of Moses and the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. When God gave Moses the plan for the Tabernacle, it was the beginning of His plan to restore man, to rescue man. This plan, we know, was fulfilled by the death, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord and Savior.

Synopsis: Paralleling Exodus 1 with Psalm 120, the Holy Spirit teaches us the importance of a corporate mindset rather than an individualized mindset. Satan recognizes what an unstoppable force a unified corporate-minded body of Christ is, and he deceives Christians in every way he can in order to keep them from realizing just how big God is. An important point emphasized in Psalm 120 is that not everyone who talks about God is sent from God.

Getting Rid of Precious

“But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy…” ~Acts 20:24

Synopsis: The Gospel of the Kingdom means that Jesus is the King. If He is the King, then he must be obeyed, even when obedience to Him is costly to our flesh man (“precious”). Every Christian must choose whether to obey the King or obey “precious”. God is looking for people who love Him more than the world, more than their emotions, more than their own will.

A Heart Set Free

Synopsis: Four women are named in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. They aren’t the four women we’d expect to find in the King’s lineage, yet each one is remembered and honored by God. Each woman’s story reminds us that God is not interested in seeing people build names for themselves in His kingdom, but in seeing people who value the truth, the seed of life, and who want to lift up the name of Christ Jesus.

God's Amnesty Plan

Synopsis: If we base our understanding of God's promise to have a spotless bride on the knowledge of good and evil, we will end up forsaking His way of keeping that promise and set about to accomplish it in our own strength because it takes faith to believe that God can really conform us to His image on the earth. God's salvation is about amnesty for the world, an indwelling Lord and King who changes us from the inside. We will never get the job done ourselves, yet that is exactly what "religion" tries to do. The Holy Spirit can and must reveal this promise to us so that we can see beyond the temporal realm and accept by faith what God wants to do in His people. Faith turns God loose to get His work done in us.

Frustrating Grace

Synopsis: No other religion is about a Creator God who comes to live within you to change the way you think. As Christians, we must be vigilant to keep our eyes in the right place – on God. If we gauge our walk with God by our ‘good’ works instead of by faith in Jesus, we make the same mistake the Galatian church made.

Jacob

In the final study of the three patriarchs, we come to a central concept of Christianity: “Having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh?” ~Galatians 3:3. God shows us, through Jacob’s life, that part of our walk when God most fully reveals Himself to us as the Lord and the Potter.

Isaac

Isaac inherited God’s covenant promise from his father. He also inherited Abraham’s wealth. He was given everything; he didn’t even choose his own wife! Yet Isaac’s role in the kingdom was far from easy. His call was to hold onto God’s promise without seeing it come to pass. Isaac was a placeholder in the kingdom of God. There are seasons in our walk that we must hold to promises from God by faith. Our sight would tell us the promise is nowhere in sight, but faith holds fast. Through this, God teaches us deep lessons about his grace and about our inability to earn anything from Him through our works.

Abraham was God’s "third beginning" in Genesis, a man called out of idol worship to know and serve the Most High. By considering Abraham’s life and his relationship with God, we can find much to encourage and challenge us. The stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob can provide us with understanding about our own walks with the Lord.

We behave according to what we believe. The devil knows this. He lies to God’s people about God and His Word because he wants us to believe lies. God said the truth will set us free. He also said that He is going to have a bride without spot or wrinkle, a perfected church. The battle line for Christianity in these last days is between truth and lies. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
